Earth Day Movie

by WAT Staff on 08-25-2010 03:30 PM

Description:
My 6th grade students complete a webquest researching Earth's biomes, what affects those biomes, and endangered animals that live in those biomes. The students play the roles of biologist, environmentalist, climatologist, and geologist while researching these topics. After the research is finished, my students will write a script to make a movie, similar to the Discovery series, Planet Earth. Students will also help record, edit, and burn dvd's for a movie night on Earth Day.

How will I use the money:
Each student wiil receive a copy of the movie. The money will be used to purchase blank dvd's, jewel cases, and paper, as well as, paying for printing costs for labels. It will also help to purchase refreshmants for the movie night.

Who will benefit:

This project will benefit 45 6th grade students and their parents by educating them about the state of Earth's ecosystems. It will positively affect 845 students by bringing good publicity to our school.

Where:
Yulee, Florida

When will my project take place:
The completion of the project is on April 22, 2010

How will you use the FlipCam to document your idea?

We will use the camcorder to record the process and record the actual footage used to make the movie.

Why I want to do this:
I think that this project in one of the most important that I do all school year because it truly helps my students understand the fragility of the Earth and the different ecosystems. My students will come away from the project with an understanding of the ecosystems and how to help protect them.
