I like to read the book Have You Filled a Bucket Today by Carol McCloud. It sets the classroom environment in a positive direction. I also give each student a bucket so his or her classmates can fill the buckets with warm fuzzies.

Starting near the end of July, there are several blogs that run comparison lists for the best back to school deals, often resulting in free after rebate or really cheap paper, expo markers, crayons, crayola markers, pens, pencils, backpacks, etc. It is through these blogs that I am able to compile backpacks of school supplies to donate to schools for children whose parents are having a tough time in the current economy.
Here are some of the links if you are interested:

There are quite a few more blogs, but these are just a few.
Hope they help!

Last year every classroom in my school received a smartboard. This year my goal is to use the smartboard to make my lessons more interactive and engaging. I teach ESL students and they are all about visual learning. This is going to be a great tool!

Making picture schedules and videos for expected behaviors prior to the beginning of the school year allows you to teach acceptable behaviors without preaching. The children get to watch videos wile learning the expected behaviors throughout the school and have a picture agenda of the steps needed to complete an activity.
