Celebrating the 100th day of school is pivotal for 6th grade students. The celebration marks their transition from an elementary school student to a middle school student. Students can create pseudo mirrors (2): place an elementary school picture inside of one mirror and a recent photo in the second. Students can write about their experiences of transition and learning about middle school. They can also predict (create a vision mirror) their successes and accomplishments as 7th graders.
We read 100 Hungry Ants. Then we make a snack with 100 little items (10 of each) Like 10 cheeios, 10 m&m's, etc. We draw a picture of what we'd look like when we are 100 years old and we do 100 jumping jacks. Hundreds days is lots of fun!
My Special Education students bring in 100 small food items. Pretzels, cereal, candy, marshmellows. Not only do we count them and put them on a 100's chart , we also use them for graphing ( using 100 items). The fun part is eating the leftovers!!!
In a K-2 classroom students could sing a 100th day of school song while holding up a mask. The mask is the number 100 with the middle of the 0's cut out for eye holes. Before students use the masks they can color them with 10 different colors using/creating 10 different patterns. This gives them a total of 100 different images on their mask.
